Iskol Bukol.

Nope. It's PEDAGOGY OF THE OPPRESSED.

Paulo Freire is idolized by my teacher in Cultural Anthropology, Sir Donne Jone Sodusta (yes, Russell, your brother! haha.) Freire is an Portugese educator that made a study about how education runs in colonized countries and that includes the Philippines. He discovered that we possesed a certain oppression. This goes to the teachers and students. The struggle for justice and equity exist in our education system. The power of the teachers from students have 100% difference. The cause of this is giving the teacher the control in all that is happening in the classroom. Which is according to Freire, is unfair. The students should have equal rights with those of the teachers. Imagine this example: A typical classroom might have number of students moving none of theit body parts and sitting like toothpicks with all the fear in their teacher holding a long stick, wearing a tight bun. How can learning be applied in such environment? You'll end up being conscious about your posture than actually being conscious of the lesson. Terrible. But in my opinion, this is somewhat good compared to other Western countries that doesn't give any amount of respect to their teachers besides this pedagogy style is slowly fading within the classrooms of the Philippines that again - in my opinion, is one cause of the lowering standards of our schools. So, is the pedagogy our teachers like Miss Minchin that bad? Or maybe, we should get those strict, military like teachers back?
